Adam Lambert is an amazing live performer, whether he’s rocking out with Queen or singing his own songs. One of his most special performances happened in Melbourne, Australia, when he sang “Whataya Want from Me” in the middle of the street. Instead of the usual rock version, Lambert performed it as a beautiful piano ballad, with just a pianist by his side.
The original version of the song is full of energy, but this stripped-down piano version felt like it was meant to be played that way all along. It really showed off Lambert’s incredible voice and brought out all the emotions in the lyrics. Here at The Music Man, we love Adam Lambert, and performances like this remind us why!
A YouTuber named Rainscapes uploaded a video of this amazing street performance on August 26, 2012. It was part of Channel V’s “Guerilla Gig” series, where surprise concerts happen in unexpected places. “Whataya Want from Me” was released as a single on November 20, 2009, and it became a big hit in Australia, reaching number four on the charts. Since Australians loved the song so much, it made perfect sense for Lambert to sing it there.
Fans can’t get enough of “Whataya Want from Me.” Lambert even performed it during his “Live from YouTube Space” show in New York City, but this time with a full rock band. People loved it and left comments like, “I love how he sounds just as good live as in the studio!” and “He’s a vocal beast! And this song never gets old.”
Did you know that “Whataya Want from Me” was written by some big names? Max Martin, Pink (yes, the superstar Pink!), and Karl Schuster worked together on it. Pink actually wrote and recorded the song for her 2008 album “Funhouse,” but it didn’t make the final cut. Later, the song was given to Lambert, and he released it in 2009 as part of his first album, “For Your Entertainment.” This album was a huge success, and “Whataya Want from Me” played a big role in that.
Over the years, Lambert has performed the song in many different ways. In his first concert tour back in 2010, he even did an acoustic version. The song has stayed a fan favorite, and he still sings it regularly. In fact, according to Setlist.fm, Lambert has performed “Whataya Want from Me” live a total of 287 times!
