Families often end up fighting over a loved one’s belongings after they pass away. Sometimes, these arguments become so intense that even those who are supposed to inherit can’t come to an agreement.
One woman shared a story about her mother and the inheritance she left behind after her death.
The woman began by saying that she was the one who had cared for her sick mother. “Mom was always my best friend, so of course, I was going to be there for her through everything,” she wrote.
But while she was always there for her mother, her greedy brother and aunts only showed up when they needed something, usually money to pay their bills.
“As my mom’s condition gradually worsened,” she continued, “one of my aunts even contacted her ‘friends’ to help find a new place to live since my mother owned a real estate business. They were so sneaky.”
Unfortunately, her mother passed away.
The woman remembered the day her mother’s will was read. It felt like a scene straight out of a Hallmark movie: her brother, her aunts, and the lawyer representing her late mother were all sitting around the room.
“I was sipping on weak tea from one of the chipped teacups when the lawyer dropped a bombshell,” she wrote. “My mother wanted to give my brother and aunts the $5 million she had saved. I tried to make sense of what was happening and forced down my tea, realizing that I was getting nothing. Absolutely nothing.”
As the reality of the situation hit her, tears welled up in her eyes, and her mascara started to smudge onto her skirt. Meanwhile, her brother and aunts were too thrilled to hide their smiles.
