We often tell our kids to call 911 if they ever need help, but one little boy took that advice to a whole new level!
This young boy was struggling with his homework, especially his math problems. Frustrated and needing help, he did what he thought was the most logical thing—he picked up the phone and called 911! Why? Well, 911 is for emergencies, and in his mind, being stuck on math was definitely an emergency.
When the 911 operator picked up the call, they began asking the usual questions, trying to figure out what kind of trouble the boy was in. But soon, after a series of misunderstandings, the operator realized the “emergency” was actually a math problem!
Here’s how the phone call went:
Operator: “911, what’s your emergency?”
Boy: “I need help.”
Operator: “Okay, what’s wrong?”
Boy: “It’s my arithmetic.”
Operator: “Your lips?”
Boy: “No! My math! I have to finish it. Can you help me?”
Operator: “Alright. What city do you live in?”
Boy: “I can’t do the math.”
Operator: “I understand that, but where are you?”
Boy: “I’d rather just talk to you.”
Operator: “I can’t stay on the phone with you, but I can send someone to help.”
Boy: “Okay.”
Operator: “What kind of math problems are you working on?”
Boy: “They’re takeaways.”
Operator: “Subtraction, got it. What’s the problem?”
Boy: “What’s 8 minus 16?”
Operator: “What do you think it is?”
Boy: “I don’t know… is it 1?”
Operator: “Not quite. How old are you?”
Boy: “I’m four.”
Operator: “Four! Wow, that’s a tough question for a four-year-old. What’s your next one?”
Boy: “It’s five takeaways.”
Operator: “Okay, what’s 5 minus 5?”
Boy: “Five!”
At this point, a woman’s voice is heard in the background, clearly alarmed.
Woman: “Johnny, what are you doing?!”
Boy: “I’m getting help with my math from the policeman.”
Woman: “I told you to call someone if you needed help, but not the police!”
Operator: “Ma’am, it’s okay. He called 911 for math help.”
Boy: “You said to call someone!”
Woman: “I didn’t mean the police!”
This call was both funny and sweet. The boy took his mom’s advice very seriously, and the 911 operator handled the situation with patience and humor. The mother, on the other hand, was probably caught between being embarrassed and laughing at the whole situation.
It’s moments like these that remind us how literally kids can take things, and how sometimes the simplest situations can turn into something completely unexpected!
