Hi everyone, I’m Evelyn from Minnesota, and I’ve got a story that might make you think twice before getting on a plane. My dad and I were flying from Alberta to Minneapolis, expecting a smooth and cozy journey. But what happened instead was something we’ll never forget, all thanks to a little boy and his clueless parents.
The Kicking Begins
About 40 minutes into our flight, I felt a sudden kick against my seat. When I looked back, I saw a boy, around ten years old, casually kicking it. At first, I thought it was just a one-time thing, so I turned around and asked him nicely, “Hey buddy, could you please stop? I really want to enjoy my flight.” His parents gave me a strange look, and the kid made a face, but I thought the problem was solved.
But just five minutes later, the kicking started again, even harder this time. Not only was he kicking my seat, but he’d also started kicking my dad’s seat too. My dad, who’s always calm and composed, turned around and politely asked the boy to stop. The boy did—well, for about ten seconds. Then it was back to bam, bam, bam!
The Audacity of the Parents
Instead of calling the flight attendant, my dad decided to recline his seat as far back as it would go. This made it impossible for the boy to keep kicking, so he started whining to his parents. But instead of telling their son to behave, his parents turned to my dad and said, “Can you put your seat back up? Our son should enjoy his flight too.”
My dad calmly refused. It was unbelievable—they actually called the flight attendant on us!
The Flight Attendant’s Intervention
The boy’s father complained to the flight attendant, saying, “This man put his seat back, and now my son is uncomfortable!”
The flight attendant, staying professional, turned to my dad and asked, “Would you like to keep your seat reclined?”
“Yes, please,” my dad replied.
“Well then, there’s no problem here,” the flight attendant said, turning to the boy’s parents.
But the drama didn’t stop there. The boy’s father got even more upset and demanded that the flight attendant make my dad put his seat up. The flight attendant explained, “Passengers are allowed to recline their seats if they wish.” Frustrated, the boy’s father started raising his voice, causing a scene.
The Lesson
Seeing that the situation was escalating, the flight attendant called for backup. Soon, another flight attendant and a senior crew member arrived to help. They listened to both sides of the story and then made a decision that left the boy’s parents stunned.
“If your son can’t behave properly,” the senior crew member said firmly, “we’ll have to ask you to move to different seats. We’ve received multiple complaints about your son’s behavior.”
Realizing they were outnumbered and out of options, the boy’s parents reluctantly agreed to move to the back of the plane. As they gathered their things, the boy’s father muttered something under his breath, but they finally moved.
As they walked past us, the boy shot us a defiant look. My dad simply smiled and said, “Next time, listen when someone asks you politely.” The boy’s face turned bright red as he hurried after his parents.
Peace at Last
Once that disruptive family moved, the rest of the flight was peaceful. The flight attendants even checked on us a couple of times to make sure we were comfortable. My dad and I enjoyed the rest of our journey, relieved that the situation had been handled so well.
When we finally landed in Minneapolis, we saw the boy and his parents again at baggage claim. They avoided looking at us, and I couldn’t help but feel a bit satisfied. My dad had taught them an important lesson in respect and consideration for others.
Reflection
This experience reminded me how crucial it is to stand up for yourself and others. My dad’s calm but firm response didn’t just solve the immediate problem; it set an example for how to handle such situations in the future. It’s a lesson I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.
Traveling can be stressful, and we all need to be mindful of those around us. Hopefully, the boy and his parents learned that lesson too.
1 thought on “Boy didn’t stop kicking our seat during a very long Flight – Here’s what my dad did”
The father was justified. That boys parents apparently don’t respect others so transfers to the son. People need to start learning respect and be considerate of others.
