LAPD officers have arrested a man in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles on suspicion of arson linked to the Kenneth Fire, which is currently spreading dangerously toward Hidden Hills and Calabasas.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire, now being fanned by strong winds, was deliberately started, intensifying fears in the area.

Charles Dinsel, a senior lead officer with the LAPD, spoke with NewsNation about the incident. “Here’s what we know so far: the fire began in this area, and within 20 to 30 minutes, a suspect was caught by residents in Woodland Hills,” he explained.

The Kenneth Fire has already burned over 950 acres, leaving residents and authorities scrambling to contain its destruction.

Residents Catch Arsonist in the Act

According to Fox News, the dramatic arrest happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday near the intersection of Arcos Drive and Galendo Street. People in the area noticed something unusual—a man riding a bicycle, carrying a lit torch. Witnesses say they saw him trying to set old Christmas trees and garbage cans on fire.

One resident, John Martinez, described the tense moment: “I couldn’t believe it. The guy was just riding around, torch in hand, like it was nothing! We knew we had to stop him before things got worse.”

Acting quickly, several residents stepped in. They managed to restrain the man, even using zip ties to secure him while waiting for law enforcement to arrive.

“It was scary, but we couldn’t just stand by and do nothing,” said another neighbor, Maria Hernandez. “We’re all in this together, and it felt like the right thing to do.”

The man’s identity has not been revealed, and investigators are now looking into whether he might be connected to other fires in the area.

Unanswered Questions

The LAPD is working hard to figure out the full story behind these fires. In a brief statement, they shared, “Right now, we cannot say for sure where or how this series of fires began, but we are conducting a thorough investigation.”

The arrest comes as high-profile celebrities, including Henry Winkler, Chris Brown, and Elizabeth Chambers, have publicly claimed arson is behind many of the wildfires ravaging Los Angeles. Their voices have drawn attention to the alarming pattern of fires spreading across the city.

The Damage So Far

The wildfires have been devastating. Ten lives have been lost, and many others have suffered injuries. Firefighters are working around the clock, but the flames remain out of control in several areas.

At least 10,000 structures have been destroyed, including some historic landmarks that were cherished by the community.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass addressed the crisis in a press conference. “We’re dealing with extreme conditions. The strong winds are making this fire spread quickly, and we are urging everyone to stay safe and follow evacuation orders,” she said.

A City Under Threat

The Kenneth Fire is one of several wildfires causing chaos in Los Angeles. Officials believe it started in the San Fernando Valley, near Ventura County and the West Hills neighborhood in the northwest part of the city.

This blaze is burning north of the Palisades Fire, which is already a significant concern for emergency crews.

Meanwhile, Cal Fire has provided some hope by announcing that the Lidia Fire, the northernmost wildfire, is now 75% contained. It has been downgraded from a California Fire incident, meaning it no longer poses a statewide threat.

However, other fires, like the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, remain large and extremely dangerous.

What’s Next?

As the Kenneth Fire continues to rage, officials and residents alike are hoping for swift action to bring it under control. Firefighters, law enforcement, and community members are working together to protect lives and property from further harm.
