When we share our lives online, we open ourselves up to both praise and criticism.
Matt and Brittany Montgomery are a young couple who enjoy posting pictures of themselves together. But not everyone is kind. They’ve faced harsh comments and negative reactions from people online. However, instead of letting the negativity get them down, they’ve shown a powerful message: stand strong in your beliefs and don’t let the critics get to you.
Matt and Brittany’s love story may seem familiar – two people meet, fall in love, and begin building a life together. But there’s a twist: Matt is much larger than Brittany, and people can’t stop commenting on it.
Brittany has faced struggles with self-acceptance all her life. Growing up with overbearing parents, she never felt safe or loved during their conversations. These experiences left her feeling depleted and inadequate about herself.
As a plus-size woman, Brittany often encountered two types of men: those who wanted her to lose weight and those who were only interested in her curves. After many disappointing relationships, she even considered giving up on finding love altogether.
But fate had other plans. In August 2020, Brittany met Matt online. Their bodies were completely different, but their hearts and spirits connected in a way that felt right.
“I was a bit hesitant at first,” Brittany admitted. “I’ve been in relationships where guys told me they’d leave if I didn’t lose weight. It really hurt my self-confidence. I even tried working out and changing my size at one point.”
Despite her fears, Brittany and Matt’s love only grew stronger. Matt proposed to Brittany on January 30, 2022, and from that moment, they started making plans for their future together.
They are completely at ease with one another, but they’ve also talked about how outsiders view their relationship. When asked about the comments he gets on his Instagram, Matt said, “People comment on Instagram and suggest that I’m not big enough or man enough for her. I do notice people staring when we walk down the street…”
But despite the judgment they face, Matt and Brittany are sure of their love for one another. The negative comments don’t bother them because they know their relationship is real and genuine.
Matt has had relationships with women who fit society’s “normal size” standards, but those never worked out. With Brittany, it’s different. He loves her for who she is, and he feels like she’s his soulmate. He works hard to make her feel loved and happy.
“You are worthy, you are deserving of infinite love every single day and more,” Matt recently told Brittany. “The way I look at you and feel for you, and the way you look and feel for me, is how I know we are meant to be.”
Matt even posted a photo of them together, along with some of the hurtful comments others have left on photos of couples like them. It was his way of showing just how strong their love is, and what a perfect response to the naysayers.
Matt and Brittany are on a mission to normalize relationships between people of different sizes. Brittany said, “I wish mixed-weight relationships were more common and seen as the norm.”
The couple recently announced they’re expecting their second child, Lakelyn, in September 2023. We wish them all the best!
Love and happiness don’t follow any rules. We should all learn to embrace each other for who we are and love ourselves and others fully.
