When a child goes missing, the whole community often comes together, doing everything they can to find the child and bring them back to their anxious family. Whenever we hear about these cases, we all hope for a happy ending—a reunion with the family or just something positive after such a frightening experience.
But not all cases have a happy ending. Some, like the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, remain unsolved for years. People still remember her, even though decades have passed, and her family continues to hope that she will one day be found.
Unfortunately, not every story of a missing child has a good outcome. Some end in heartbreak, where the child is found but no longer alive. Sadly, this is one of those stories—the story of Kennedy Jean Schroer.
Kennedy’s case is one that breaks your heart. On September 11, 2024, police made a horrifying discovery: the remains of Kennedy Jean Schroer were found buried in the backyard of her adoptive parents’ home. And they suspect she had been dead for four years.
Kennedy and her two sisters were adopted by a new family in 2019, after their biological mother lost custody. At the time, their mother, Christa Helm, had hoped her girls would have a better life with their adoptive family in Kansas, USA. But things took a tragic turn that no one saw coming.
On that September day in 2024, DNA tests confirmed that the remains found in the garden belonged to Kennedy. Police believe that she died in November 2020, when she was just six years old.
Due to the state of her body, which had been buried for so long, the cause of death remains unknown. However, the police are still investigating to uncover the truth behind her tragic death, though no one has been arrested yet.
The police are urging patience as they gather all the facts. One of the officers involved in the case said, “While we understand the desire to hold people accountable, we need to get this right, not just fast.”
Kennedy’s biological mother, Christa Helm, is devastated beyond words. Before Kennedy was adopted, she was named Natalie Garcia, a name her mother had given her. Now, Christa is fighting to regain custody of her two other daughters, who are still living with the same adoptive family.
“I want them to get the therapy and love they need from their real family, where they belong,” Christa told KSN, pleading for her children’s return.
People are understandably frustrated that no arrests have been made yet, and the Rose Hill Police Department knows the public is looking for justice. “We understand that many in the public may be confused as to why no one has been arrested in this case,” the police said in a press release.
“What we would like to convey is that we have one chance to gather as much information as possible, to find out what happened to this child and to tell her story.”
This investigation isn’t being taken lightly. It’s a massive effort involving officers, detectives, surrounding law enforcement agencies, social workers, and even mental health professionals, all working together to uncover what happened. The police reassured the public, saying, “What we can assure anyone interested in this case, Kennedy is the center of our Universe and will remain so until we have answers.”
Kennedy’s story is heartbreaking. She was just a little girl, and her life was tragically cut short. The world is waiting for answers, hoping that justice will be served, and that her story will help bring peace to her family.
