The day you become a parent is a day that stays with you forever. In an instant, a beautiful, unique little person arrives in the world, relying on you for everything. It’s your job to create the best conditions for them and support them in chasing their dreams.
When Adriana Iliescu became a mother for the first time in 2005, her story made headlines around the globe. Why? Because Adriana was 66 years old when she welcomed her daughter, Eliza, into the world. Can you imagine the excitement? A new life, a new beginning, all at such a remarkable age!
Seventeen years have passed since that extraordinary day, and now, Adriana is once again in the spotlight as new pictures of Eliza are making waves online. The bond between a mother and her child is something magical, a feeling that transforms your life in ways you never thought possible.
Every parent knows that the moment they hold their baby for the first time is something indescribable. The joy floods your heart, and the love you feel is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
Eliza Iliescu was born in Romania and immediately made history. Because of her mother’s age, she became well-known from the moment she entered the world.
Adriana Iliescu was officially recognized as the oldest mother in the world, earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. This was no ordinary birth; it was a moment that would be talked about for years to come.
In 2010, Adriana bravely spoke out about motherhood and shared her feelings, especially considering the harsh criticism she faced after becoming a mom at such an unconventional age. Many people thought she was too old or selfish, but Adriana had a different perspective.
“The mirror is unkind to women,” she told the Daily Mail, “but if we are talking about my energy, then I feel like a young woman. I feel like I’m 27, and when I feel a bit more tired, I feel like I’m 37. I am healthier than women more than half my age.” She carried an air of confidence, capturing the essence of her spirit.
Adriana even mentioned how people called her “granny” as a joke, but she brushed it off with grace. “I didn’t have Eliza to make me look younger. I never feel my years,” she said, her eyes shining with determination and love.
Even though there were whispers and concerns about her age, Adriana’s love for Eliza was unwavering. She emphasized that she was a good parent and worked hard to provide everything her daughter needed. “I don’t smoke and I don’t drink.
If I live as long as my parents did, Eliza will be 20 by the time I pass away. I think I still have a lot to give her,” Adriana proudly declared, determined to be there for her daughter for as long as possible.
But becoming a mother later in life wasn’t something Adriana had planned. When she was young, she faced a heartbreaking situation: she was forced to abort her first child due to medical reasons.
Then, at just 24, her husband left her. It was a tough time, and she focused on her career, pouring her heart into her teaching job at a university in Romania.
“I couldn’t even think about a child,” she said, reflecting on those years. “I was working.” But in her heart, she always knew she wanted to be a mom. “From the age of 37, after I had completed my doctorate, I was ready to have a child. But there wasn’t IVF back then.”
It wasn’t until Adriana turned 57 that in-vitro fertilization (IVF) became available in Romania. Full of hope, she sought treatment but faced disappointment when her first pregnancy in 2000 ended in heartbreak.
Many people didn’t understand her dream of motherhood and turned their backs on her, thinking it was wrong for her to pursue it. But Adriana held on to her dream like a beacon of light, and her determination never wavered.
Adriana sought out Dr. Bogdan Marinescu in Bucharest for help. Through his care, she became pregnant with triplets. However, tragedy struck again as two of the babies didn’t survive, leaving Adriana with just Eliza.
Though Eliza was born prematurely and spent time in the NICU, she grew stronger and became the joyful child Adriana had hoped for.
When it was time for Eliza to be baptized, Adriana faced criticism from some religious groups who disapproved of her becoming a mother at her age. At the baptism, nuns even gave her judging looks, and one unkindly referred to Eliza as “the product of dark forces.”
But Adriana remained strong in her faith, believing that Eliza was a precious gift from God.
Fast forward to 2022, 17 years have passed since Adriana became a mother. Now, she and Eliza enjoy spending time together, making memories and enjoying life. Often, people mistake Adriana for Eliza’s grandmother because of their age difference. And yet, the bond they share is filled with love and joy.
Adriana, now 83, continues to thrive. She feels vibrant in both her mind and body and pours her love into her family. She has written over 25 children’s books and still teaches part-time in Bucharest. “I may look like a great-grandma,” she joked, “but inside, I am full of energy and ready for life!”
One of the important agreements Adriana made when she pursued IVF was that Dr. Marinescu would become Eliza’s godfather and legal guardian in case something happened to her. This decision shows just how much Adriana wants to ensure her daughter’s future is secure and filled with love, no matter what.
As for Eliza, she has plans for the future. She hopes to study and go to college. According to Brightside, she is an award-winning student and is following closely in her mother’s academic footsteps. “I want to make my mom proud,” she often says, inspired by Adriana’s journey and achievements.
It’s clear to everyone who meets them that Adriana is dedicated to her daughter. She creates a nurturing environment, showing that love has no age limit. Eliza looks happy, confident, and well-adjusted—truly a beautiful soul.
