The physical and emotional distance from his family in England seems to be troubling Prince Harry. Not being able to support his nephews, niece, and sister-in-law Catherine is now catching up with him.
Prince Harry, 39, always hoped to be there for his nephews and niece when they didn’t want to turn to their parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, both 42. As the brother of the heir to the throne, he knows all too well what might be going through the minds of Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. But the desired closeness is missing – to this day, William’s children have little to no contact with their cousin Prince Archie, 5, and their cousin Princess Lilibet, 3.
Lack of Contact with Charlotte and Louis Breaks Prince Harry’s Heart
“Whatever Harry feels about his brother and father, he always feels guilty that he has no relationship with his niece and nephews and that Archie and Lili don’t know their only cousins,” an insider tells the British “OK!” magazine. They added: “Harry always envisioned them growing up near him and being able to ask him for advice that they – especially Charlotte and Louis – might not be able to get from their parents.”
In January 2023, Prince Harry revealed to “The Telegraph” that he was seriously worried about his brother’s two youngest children: “I know that at least one of those three kids will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, that worries me.” However, Prince William reportedly “made it clear” to him that the well-being of his children was not Harry’s responsibility, according to the 39-year-old. Yet Harry is said to “see a lot of himself in little Louis,” the “OK!” insider reveals. And further: “It breaks his heart that he doesn’t really know them.”
Is Harry Plagued by Guilt? “He Often Thinks About the News from Kate”
Contact with his once close sister-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, has also broken off. Just now, when the 42-year-old is battling cancer, Harry cannot support her. “He often thinks about the news from Kate because he misses her very much,” the informant shares. According to them, Harry wishes he didn’t have to watch from the outside like the rest of the world but could make a difference. “The loss of Kate was the second big loss for Harry after losing his mother,” Royal expert Tom Quinn recently claimed.
Particularly, the harsh lines from his autobiography “Spare” are likely catching up with him now. “When you learn that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written something that you can’t take back, that’s a pretty painful situation,” said Royal expert Tessa Dunlop. So, is Harry really on the verge of swallowing his pride and giving in to his homesickness? At least one thing is certain: “He misses Kate and his nephews and niece.”
