These are the eagerly awaited photos that fans of the Swedish royals look forward to year after year: The royal family appears relaxed and carefree at least once during the summer concert series at the Borgholm Castle ruins. There is dancing, singing along, and cuddling. And just like two years ago, one thing stands out again: Princess Estelle apparently has a favorite among her aunts – and it’s not Madeleine.
These are images that warm the heart of every royal fan: King Carl Gustaf, 78, Queen Silvia, 80, and others are in vacation mode and mingle with the crowd. It’s not just the Solliden Sessions that provide entertainment during the long summers on Öland, the Bernadottes’ holiday island. The Borgholm Castle ruins also host various performances, including the traditional Victoria Concert on July 14. This year, the Swedish pop singer Molly Sandén, 32, performed once again. It was a feast – especially for Princess Estelle, 12, and Princess Sofia, 39.
Princess Estelle and Princess Sofia in Fan Frenzy
Niece and aunt are huge fans of the musician. Sofia is even close friends with her and enjoyed a serenade from Molly at her wedding to Prince Carl Philip, 45, on June 13, 2015. She seems to have passed this enthusiasm on to Estelle. The two last cheered for the famous Stockholm singer from their rustic seats in the castle ruins in 2022.
Sisters in Spirit
And in 2024, there was an adorable déjà vu: Estelle and Sofia were already full of emotions, while the king and queen clapped along, looking somewhat fatigued. The family and celebration hustle and bustle around Princess Victoria’s 47th birthday seemed to have taken a toll on them. And the long-awaited return of Princess Madeleine, 42, along with her daughters Adrienne, 6, and Leonore, 10, seemed to need some motivation.
But for Estelle and Sofia, their hearts clearly beat in the same rhythm – and race with joy from the shared concert experience. The two are evidently sisters in spirit, as shown repeatedly throughout the evening. They danced and sang, chatted with each other, and enjoyed a wonderful closeness. Family bonds couldn’t be more beautiful.
