At the reception of the United World Colleges Foundation Board, the entire Spanish royal family was present. Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia stood out for their good behavior but questionable fashion choices.
The Spanish royal family has a packed schedule of engagements. After leading the graduation ceremony for naval officers with her parents, Princess Leonor, 18, attended the reception of the United World Colleges Foundation Board. While King Felipe, 56, and Queen Letizia, 51, opted for classic pantsuits, their daughters’ fashion choices were less successful.
Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia Make Fashion Missteps
Usually, Princess Leonor and Princess Sofia, 17, are celebrated by the press for their looks. They typically maintain a sporty, elegant style that rarely takes risks. For the recent engagement, Crown Princess Leonor chose a budget-friendly option, wearing a midi dress with puff sleeves and a floral print from & Other Stories. While the dress itself is charming in cut and design, pairing it with black wedge sandals from Calzedonia gave it a holiday vibe and diminished its elegance. Small kitten heels in a rose tone and a small handbag would have elevated the outfit.
In contrast to her sister, Princess Sofia took more of a fashion risk at the Foundation Board reception, opting for a bright red statement color. While she was praised online for her color choice, the feedback on her dress was much less favorable. She chose an asymmetrical dress from Mango, which is noticeably shorter on the right side and features darts at the waist.
She paired it with ballet flats with bow details from Mathildas. Under a post from the royal fan account Royalfashionpolice on Instagram, there was swift and strong criticism. “Terrible dress and shoes. They need to change the Infanta’s stylist as soon as possible,” read one comment under Sofia’s photo.
The red dress, in particular, received harsh criticism. This might be due to its unusually short length for an official engagement. Additionally, the fit was somewhat off, as the dress was neither form-fitting nor oversized. Despite this, the harsh critique of Leonor and Sofia seems disproportionately severe, especially since they are at an age where experimenting with styles and colors should be encouraged.
