Ricki Lake is truly living her best life right now, and she’s not shy about sharing it! On Monday, the former talk show host posted a bold selfie on Instagram, giving everyone a glimpse of both her happiness and a bit of skin.
In the photo, 54-year-old Lake is sitting naked and smiling in an outdoor tub, surrounded by majestic redwood trees. She captioned the photo, “Hands down, these days are the best of my life.” She continued, “54 and a half years old (young!) and grateful for everything that brought me to this place of complete self-acceptance and self-love.”
Lake’s journey to self-love began in 2019, though she kept it mostly private until she revealed more in 2022. In December 2022, she posted a never-before-seen video of herself shaving her head, which she had filmed back in 2019. In the caption, she opened up about her 30-year struggle with androgenetic alopecia, a condition that caused her hair to thin and fall out.
“I’ve never shared this raw video footage before,” she wrote, “but I felt like it was time for those of you who have followed my story and been invested in it. Some of you know my struggle all too well, and I want you to know, I truly feel you.”
In the video, Lake reaches a place of peace, liberation, and most importantly, self-love and acceptance. Since then, her hair has grown back, and she’s embraced her “natural gray and sometimes wild, unruly head of hair.” Her message is one of hope: “May all of you struggling with whatever find your own peace and acceptance. Life is too damn short.”
Not everyone was thrilled with her daring post, though. Some people found the image inappropriate. One person commented, “I don’t get why anyone has to show themselves like this!
LOL,” while another added, “That’s all well and fine, but why do we have to see it? Just wondering. Posting a nude photo online seems really weird to me. Just my opinion.”
Despite the criticism, Lake didn’t respond to the negative comments, and she doesn’t seem bothered by them. After all, we all have the freedom to choose who we follow, and it’s important to respect everyone’s right to share what they want.
So, what do you think about Ricki Lake’s decision to share this online? We believe her message is vital—worrying about things we can’t control is a waste of time. Learning to accept and love ourselves, flaws and all, is something we should all strive for.
