Whoopi Goldberg’s Wild Birthday on The View
Whoopi Goldberg has been a regular host and moderator on The View since 2007, bringing her unique charm and humor to the show. On Wednesday, November 13, the team celebrated her 69th birthday in a way only The View could—full of laughter, surprises, and plenty of fun!
During the episode, the Oscar-winning star of Ghost found herself at the center of a hilarious moment. A special birthday segment featured a giant wheel of cheese with Whoopi’s face on it. As the audience cheered, co-host Sara Haines couldn’t help but joke, “I’ve always wanted my face on cheese!”
Whoopi responded with her trademark wit, saying, “Well, I’d rather eat it occasionally.” Her sly remark caught everyone off guard. Sara, pretending to be scandalized, walked away dramatically, drawing laughs from the audience. The entire studio erupted in a mix of gasps, cheers, and laughter as they caught the joke’s double meaning.
Realizing she’d caused quite the reaction, Whoopi laughed and tried to steer things back on track. Pointing to the giant wheel of cheese, she quipped, “Never mind. This is 24-month-matured Parmigiano Reggiano from Italy—a true masterpiece of Italian tradition!”
As the crowd settled down, Sara, trying to keep a straight face, gave Whoopi a playful hug and returned to her seat. But Whoopi wasn’t done yet. She leaned into the joke, telling the audience, “If you want a chance to win a wheel of cheese like this, you’ve got to eat Whoopi Goldberg!” She quickly added, “I mean, no—don’t eat me! Eat the cheese!” The room burst into laughter again.
This wasn’t the first time Whoopi had shared an unexpected and personal story on TV. Earlier this year, she surprised fans by revealing where she scattered her mother’s ashes. The story came up during an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, where she described the bittersweet way she said goodbye to her mom.
Whoopi explained that she was in the middle of performing Sister Act: The Musical in London’s West End when she got the news of her mother’s passing. It was a tough time, but she wanted to honor her mother in a way that felt special and meaningful.
“I chose a place she loved,” Whoopi said. “When I was little, we went to Disneyland, and she adored the Small World ride. It debuted at the World’s Fair when I was a kid, and it was one of her favorites. So, I thought, why not there?”
Whoopi admitted she had to get creative to scatter the ashes discreetly. “Sometimes, on the Small World ride, I’d pretend to sneeze—achoo!—and drop a little bit of her there. Then we’d move on to the Disneyland flowers, and I’d say, ‘Oh, look at that!’—achoo!—and let another piece go.” She chuckled at the memory, adding, “But seriously, don’t do this. I mean it. It’s not allowed!”
The story, both touching and funny, left fans with a deeper appreciation for Whoopi’s ability to find humor and heart in even the toughest moments.
