The beautiful wedding of Harry and Meghan took place on May 19, 2018. The ceremony was filled with famous guests like George Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Serena Williams, James Corden, and Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan wore a gorgeous wedding dress designed by Clare Waight Keller from Givenchy and topped it off with the stunning Queen Mary’s bandeau tiara, which belonged to Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother.
The wedding was broadcast and watched by more than 29.19 million viewers around the world. Six years later, Harry and Meghan have built a completely new life for themselves and their two children in the United States. Historian Gareth Russell remarked that Harry and Meghan are creating “an alternative royal family.”
Harry and Meghan’s wedding was often compared to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, which took place seven years earlier. While both weddings were grand, Kate and William’s ceremony had more significance as it marked the union of a future king and queen.
One key difference was how the brides arrived at the ceremony. Kate arrived with her father, while Meghan arrived with her mother due to a complicated relationship with her father, Thomas.
Photos of the two brides showed a difference in their waves to the crowd. Meghan’s wave was more casual with her fingers spread apart, while Kate’s wave was more formal with her fingers held close together.
Royal experts and authors like Andrew Morton questioned Harry and Meghan’s guest list, noting the presence of many A-list Hollywood celebrities. Morton commented, “[Meghan] populated the wedding with A-list Hollywood celebrities who… have proved their worth to her by speaking out in public about the criticisms of her.”
He added, “I don’t think she (had) even met Oprah Winfrey (before the wedding). I don’t know whether Harry had. But she invited these people along, and now she has her own court.”
Signs of tension between Harry and Meghan and the rest of the royal family appeared shortly after the wedding. Jonny Dymond, a royal correspondent for the BBC, said, “I mean, within days, really …There were stories coming out about how Meghan behaved towards staff.”
Camilla Tominey, who first reported on Harry and Meghan’s relationship, added, “We were getting briefings that all was not well, with the relationship between William and Harry, Meghan, and Kate, and the relationship between Harry and Meghan and the royal household.”
Before leaving the royal family, Harry and Meghan asked for permission to move to another Commonwealth country, possibly South Africa or Canada, but were denied. Meghan recalled in an interview with The Cut, “Anything to just … because just by existing, we were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy.
So we go, ‘Okay, fine, let’s get out of here. Happy to.’” She added that other royal family members were allowed to live abroad, but for some reason, they were not.
Now, six years later, the Sussexes live a new life in the United States with their two children. However, royal expert Ingrid Seward believes their seemingly perfect marriage and luxurious lifestyle are “too good to be true.” She explained that while their “Disneyesque” wedding won them public affection initially, this sentiment did not last.
“We loved them for a while, and then we didn’t much anymore. Too many complaints. But they were in love and that mattered. Until they left and then they didn’t matter anymore. They had let the Queen down, they had let the Prince of Wales down, they had let William, then the Duke of Cornwall down,” Seward said.
Seward continued, “They had let us down. Harry was stoic. He loved his Californian lifestyle. He loved his wife and children. But he was bitter against everything he had left behind including his brother and his father and his sister-in-law, Kate.” When they left the royal family, Harry and Meghan referred to their departure as a “freedom flight.”
Despite financial success, Seward remarked that Harry “as a man, is not a success.” However, she acknowledged that he has done well as a husband and father. As they celebrated their six-year anniversary, Seward noted, “People said it wouldn’t last and it has! Harry is no longer feted in his homeland as he once was.
If anything, he is pitied. I don’t think Harry can see it. He is happy in his rarefied world with Meghan doing what they do. Long may it last – and I think it will.”
Historian Gareth Russell mentioned that Harry and Meghan are forming “an alternative royal family,” which makes them more scrutinized in their commercial and public endeavors. “People will put them under more of a microscope because they’re calling it ‘The Office of Harry and Meghan’,” he said. Russell suggested this might be a strategy to pivot from negative headlines and maintain their royal-like presence in exile.
As their popularity fluctuates, Russell believes that public opinion is always a rollercoaster, but there are indications that Harry and Meghan might go on a US tour to regain favor.

Not as long as he is married to her, I believe she was and is the cause of how he treats his Father and Brother, in my eyes she is nothing but a trouble maker who thinks only of herself and what she wants. Do not like her and never will.
