Ava’s marriage to Peter was anything but smooth. They had their ups and downs, but no matter how tough things got, Ava couldn’t seem to let him go—until the day she discovered the truth.
One night, it was nearly midnight when Peter finally came home. He was drenched in sweat and looked completely exhausted. He claimed he had been working late, finishing a project. But something didn’t feel right to Ava. Peter had been distant for weeks, and she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his story than he was admitting.
The next day, Ava decided to follow Peter. Her heart raced with uncertainty as she trailed behind him, wondering if she should trust his words or her instincts. But deep down, she knew something was wrong, and she had to find out the truth.
Peter drove far from his office and stopped at a house. Ava watched as a well-dressed woman opened the door and welcomed Peter with a hug. They chatted briefly before Peter disappeared inside.
Ava’s world fell apart in that moment. Peter was having an affair, which explained his coldness toward her over the past few weeks. Devastated, Ava thought about her marriage and the man she once loved, who now seemed like a complete stranger.
That night, when Peter came home late again, Ava couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Are you having an affair with that woman?” she demanded, hoping against hope that she was wrong. But deep down, she feared the worst.
Peter didn’t deny it. He admitted he had fallen in love with someone else. What started as a one-night stand had turned into something deeper, though he still claimed he loved Ava too.
Peter tried to shift the blame onto Ava, accusing her of being cold and unsupportive. His words cut deep, but Ava had finally had enough. “Peter, I want a divorce,” she said, her voice steady and determined.
But Peter refused. Despite being in love with another woman, he didn’t want a divorce. He grew angry, threatening Ava and vowing that he would never sign the divorce papers.
That night, Ava cried herself to sleep, feeling trapped and hopeless. The thought of living under the same roof as Peter, knowing he loved someone else, was unbearable. As she lay in bed, tears streaming down her face, she heard Peter’s footsteps and the sound of a door closing.
The next morning, Peter was gone. He wasn’t in their bed, and he wasn’t anywhere in the house. Panic set in when Ava discovered that the safe was empty—money, jewelry, and Peter’s passport were all gone.
Desperate for answers, Ava drove to Peter’s mother’s house. When Martha opened the door, she was furious. She blamed Ava for driving Peter away with her talk of divorce. “If you hadn’t been so stubborn with your stupid demands, none of this would have happened!” Martha shouted.
Ava was shocked. “Do you even know Peter was having an affair?” she asked.
“So what?” Martha snapped back. “You should’ve never mentioned divorce. This is all your fault.”
Realizing that Martha was of no help, Ava returned home. The house felt empty, like it wasn’t even hers anymore. Days passed with no word from Peter. His phone was off, and he didn’t answer any of Ava’s emails. She began to lose hope of ever seeing him again, desperately needing closure.
Then, one day, while flipping through TV channels, Ava saw something that made her heart stop: a plane had crashed, and Peter’s name, along with his lover’s, was on the list of those killed. Ava was in shock. Peter was dead. As she tried to process the news, Martha arrived, crying and blaming Ava for her son’s death.
Two years later, Ava decided it was time for a fresh start. She took a trip to a nearby city, hoping a change of scenery would help her move on. One quiet afternoon, as she was shopping for groceries, she noticed a man who looked exactly like Peter. Her heart pounded. “Peter…” she whispered, but the man didn’t respond. The resemblance was too strong to ignore.
As she followed him, she suddenly saw Martha nearby. Ava was in shock—how could this be possible? She called out Peter’s name, and to her disbelief, he turned around. “I can explain everything,” he said, urging Ava to get into his car. Reluctantly, she agreed.
As they drove to Peter’s place, he revealed the truth. He had indeed been on the plane that crashed, but he had survived and used the money he stole from Ava to create a new identity. His lover had died, and Martha had helped him start a new life. While Ava mourned his death, Peter was living freely, far from the life they once shared.
Overcome with rage and betrayal, Ava screamed at Peter, who tried to calm her down. He invited her inside, promising to explain more. Unsure of what to do but too far from her hotel, Ava agreed. But once inside, Peter turned violent, fearing Ava would expose his secret. He attacked her, knocking her unconscious, and locked her in the basement.
For days, Ava cried for help, but no one could hear her. She begged Peter to let her go, promising she wouldn’t report him, but he didn’t trust her. Finally, Martha came down to the basement. She told Ava she would let her go if she promised not to hurt Peter. Desperate to escape, Ava agreed.
Martha released Ava, who immediately rushed to Peter’s car and drove away. Martha tried to stop her, urging her to walk instead, but Ava sped off. Weak and disoriented, Ava soon lost control of the car and crashed into a tree. Everything went black, and the next thing she remembered was waking up in a hospital bed, an officer waiting to question her.
The officer explained that they had traced the car’s plates to Peter, who had been living under a false identity since the plane crash. Ava told the officer everything she knew, and her testimony became the key to putting Peter behind bars.
“The case is complicated, but your testimony is crucial,” Officer Daniels told Ava. “Peter could face serious prison time for his actions, and Martha is also being investigated as an accomplice.”
Finally, Ava felt a sense of relief. She could finally start over, knowing that justice would be done and that she could leave the past behind.
