Actor Mel Gibson recently shared his thoughts on the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, and his comments have stirred up quite a bit of controversy.

The famous star of Mad Max lost his own Malibu home, which was worth a whopping £12 million, to the fires. His reaction to the tragedy shocked many, and his remarks quickly became the center of a heated debate.

“I can dream up all kinds of terrible scenarios in my mind—conspiracy theories and the like,” Gibson said. “But it just felt a bit too convenient that there was no water, and the wind conditions were perfect. Plus, there are individuals who seem ready, willing, and capable of starting fires.” He speculated that the wildfires could have been part of a larger plan to remove valuable homes from prime land.

The controversy deepened after it was reported that a suspect had been arrested in connection with one of the fires. Gibson’s suspicions grew, and he questioned whether the individual acted alone or was “commissioned” to carry out the destructive act. He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something bigger going on.

In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle, Gibson explained his thoughts more clearly. “Some of these people they’re catching seem to be very well-prepared,” he said.

“I’m aware that they’ve been interfering with water supplies, releasing reserves for various reasons.” Gibson continued, his tone serious, “They’ve been doing this for a while now. California has numerous issues that are hard to understand when it comes to decision-making.”

Gibson wasn’t finished with his doubts. He added, “When something like this happens, you start to wonder—was it intentional? I know it sounds crazy, but it makes you question if there’s a purpose behind it all. What is that purpose? Do they want the state emptied out? I don’t know. It’s a troubling thought.”

“They seem highly equipped, these individuals who are being apprehended,” Gibson said once again, stressing his concerns.

His words quickly set off a firestorm of reactions. Many people were critical of his comments, calling his thoughts outlandish. “Conspiracy theories seem to be his last attempt at relevance,” one Twitter user wrote. Another person added, “While Californians are battling fires, these two are busy stirring the pot.” A third commenter simply said, “Shameful.”

But Gibson’s remarks didn’t go unnoticed by others. Laura Ingraham, who was interviewing him, brought up an interesting point. She mentioned that there had been earlier speculation about plans to develop high-density housing in the areas affected by the wildfires.

This led Gibson to compare the situation to something he had learned about in history. “It’s like the old cattle barons driving people off the land,” he said. His words echoed the idea that powerful people might be behind these fires, trying to push people out for their own gain.
