When Jess and Michael got engaged, her cousin Sarah offered to make Jess’s wedding dress as a gift. It seemed like such a thoughtful gesture. But when Jess finally tried the dress on, she realized it was two sizes too small! Now Jess had a tough choice to make—would Sarah fix the mistake, or would Jess have to solve it herself?
Growing up, Jess always had a tricky relationship with Sarah. Sarah was the loud, bubbly one who loved being the center of attention. Their family found it easier to let Sarah shine while Jess stayed quietly in the background.
But when Michael proposed after four amazing years together, Jess was over the moon! For once, her family seemed genuinely excited for her. Even Sarah stepped up, organizing a fun girls’ night out to celebrate Jess being the first cousin to get engaged.
During the party, with music thumping in the background, Sarah, holding a glass of champagne, bounced over to Jess with a huge grin.
“Jess! I have the BEST idea!” she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.
Curious, Jess smiled. “What is it?”
“I want to make your wedding dress for you!” Sarah said, swaying a little to the beat of the music.
Sarah was a brilliant seamstress, so despite their complicated history, Jess was really touched by the offer. It felt like a meaningful way to make the wedding extra special.
“Are you serious? You’d do that for me?” Jess asked, her heart warming.
“Of course! It’ll be PERFECT!” Sarah said with enthusiasm, her smile beaming.
That night felt magical. Jess thought maybe this was a sign—maybe things between her and Sarah were finally improving. The next few weeks were filled with excitement as they flipped through wedding magazines, picking out fabrics and styles. It felt like a dream coming true, like a fairy tale.
One day, Jess met Sarah at her studio for the final measurements. Sarah was super careful, taking every measurement while chatting about how the dress was going to turn out.
“You’re going to look AMAZING!” Sarah said with full confidence.
“I hope so! I’ve been really careful with my diet and everything. I just want to keep it this way until the wedding,” Jess replied, feeling both excited and nervous.
Sarah smiled warmly. “You look great, Jess. If anything changes, just let me know. We can always do another fitting.”
Jess left feeling thrilled and couldn’t wait to see the final result. But when the day of the last fitting came, her excitement turned into sheer panic.
Jess stepped into the dress, but it wouldn’t zip. It was way too small.
Sarah stood back, watching with a raised eyebrow. “Jess, have you gained weight before the wedding?” she asked, her voice dripping with fake concern.
Jess’s heart sank. The wedding was just two weeks away, and suddenly she had no dress!
“I haven’t gained weight,” Jess protested, her mind racing. “If anything, I’ve lost some because of the stress.”
Sarah shrugged, pretending to care. “Well, I’ll try to fix it, but I’ve got other clients too. I can’t make any promises.”
Driving home, Sarah’s words rang in Jess’s ears. Something felt off. The way Sarah had smirked, the way she spoke—it didn’t seem like an honest mistake. It felt like she had done this on purpose.
That evening, Jess vented her frustration to Michael, still unsure of what to do.
“Why don’t you show me the dress?” Michael asked, pouring himself a glass of water.
Jess shook her head quickly. “No way! It’s bad luck for you to see it before the wedding!”
Michael smiled. “Alright, then why don’t you take it to Mrs. Lawson? She’s a family friend, and she’s done wonders with alterations. Maybe she can help.”
Jess thought about it, then decided to give it a shot. She took the dress to Mrs. Lawson, a retired seamstress known for her incredible skill. When Mrs. Lawson saw the dress, she gave Jess a reassuring smile.
“Oh, honey,” Mrs. Lawson said kindly. “Michael told me all about it. Don’t worry, we’ll make this work. I’ve fixed worse than this.”
Together, they transformed the dress. Instead of the long, traditional gown Jess had originally imagined, they turned it into a stylish, short, cocktail-style dress. It was bold, unique, and completely Jess. It wasn’t what she had planned, but it turned out perfect.
On the day of the wedding, Jess stood in front of the mirror in the bridal suite, staring at herself. She felt beautiful. Her dad walked in, and his eyes widened when he saw her.
“My darling, you look incredible,” he said, his voice full of pride.
Jess smiled. “Thanks, Dad. It’s not the dress we expected, but it’s even better.”
Her dad smiled back. “And that’s all that matters,” he said, offering his arm as the wedding music started to play.
Walking down the aisle, Jess felt the eyes of everyone on her. She caught Michael’s gaze at the altar, and his face lit up with love and admiration. In that moment, she knew he was falling in love with her all over again.
But before the ceremony began, Jess couldn’t resist glancing over at Sarah. Her face was pale, her expression one of total shock. It was clear she hadn’t expected Jess to pull through. Sarah had been waiting for Jess to crumble, but instead, Jess was shining.
The ceremony was flawless. When Michael spoke his vows, Jess felt tears well up in her eyes. The love surrounding them was overwhelming, and she knew, without a doubt, she was marrying the right man.
Later, at the reception, as Jess and Michael mingled with their guests, Sarah pulled Jess aside.
“Jess, what happened to the dress? Where’s the original design I made?” Sarah asked, trying to hide her confusion.
Jess smiled sweetly. “I took your design and made it better. Remember? You said you couldn’t promise to fix it, and it was way too small.”
“So, you just threw away all my hard work?” Sarah snapped.
“No, Sarah,” Jess said calmly. “Your work was the foundation. But it’s a hundred times better now, thanks to Mrs. Lawson. She wanted me to feel beautiful on my wedding day.”
Sarah stood there, speechless, as guests around them continued to compliment Jess’s unique and stunning dress. She had no choice but to listen.
From across the room, Michael called out, “Hey love, it’s time for our first dance! Then I’m going straight for the buffet!”
Jess laughed, feeling lighter than she had in weeks. Everything had worked out, and she was finally happy and content.
