My Sister Planned a Lie Detector Contest for My Fiancé and Me at My Wedding—the Wedding Was Canceled After Taking It

The day I’d been dreaming of—my wedding day—was supposed to be perfect. It was supposed to be a day of joy, filled with love and laughter. But instead, it became a day I will never forget for all the wrong reasons. The nightmare began when my sister decided to bring a lie detector test to the ceremony.

I’m Harlene, 28 years old, an educator who always believed that life was going exactly as I had planned. My fiancé, Mark, and I had been together for five wonderful years. Together, we envisioned a future filled with love and laughter, with no room for doubt. But then, my sister, Melissa, turned our perfect day into a catastrophe.

Mark and I first met through a mutual friend five years ago, and from the moment we locked eyes, it felt like we had known each other forever. He was warm, thoughtful, and so caring.

Mark had a way of making people feel special, and what really drew me to him was his ability to make those around him feel seen. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help anyone in need.

We quickly became inseparable. Our weekends were spent trying new restaurants, binge-watching our favorite sitcoms, and dreaming about our future. “Har,” he’d tease, his trademark grin lighting up his face, “If it weren’t for your cooking, I’d probably starve.”

“Well, good thing I love feeding you,” I’d laugh, watching him devour another plate of lasagna.

Mark was a dedicated software developer, often working long hours in front of his computer. It didn’t bother me—his passion for his work was something I admired deeply.

As for me, I loved being a teacher. My students filled my life with joy, and I cherished every moment with them. My job was chaotic, messy, and exhausting, but it was perfect.

When we decided to get married, we talked about a wedding that would be a celebration of our love—a day our friends and family would remember forever.

“Let’s make this a wedding people talk about for years,” Mark said one evening, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

“Absolutely!” I agreed. “How about we add some fun games to the mix? Something that will get everyone involved.”

“That’s a great idea!” Mark grinned. “We could do trivia, charades, or even a karaoke battle. It’ll be fun!”

We even asked Melissa for help, but her response was lukewarm at best. “I don’t know,” she said, shrugging. “You two are the creative ones. Just let me know what you need, and I’ll help.”

Despite Melissa’s lack of enthusiasm, we moved forward, planning every detail of the wedding with love and care. From the music playlist to the floral arrangements, we worked together to make sure everything was perfect.

Mark, being the perfectionist he is, paid close attention to every little thing. He made sure even the napkins matched the centerpieces, and that the cake was designed just the way we wanted it.

“This is going to be the happiest day of our lives,” I said as we finalized the guest list.

“It will be,” Mark said, squeezing my hand. “I can’t wait to see you walk down the aisle.”

I believed him. I believed in us. I thought nothing could possibly ruin this day.

But the day we had carefully planned turned into something I would never be able to forget.

On our wedding day, I stood in front of the mirror, unable to contain my excitement. I looked at myself—my wedding dress was perfect, the decorations were beautiful, and the energy in the venue was electric. It was everything I had imagined.

Mark greeted me with a kiss on the cheek. “You look absolutely stunning, Har,” he said, his voice full of love and admiration.

“And you look so handsome,” I replied, smiling at his crisp suit and the sparkle in his eyes.

Everything seemed perfect until Melissa grabbed the microphone.

“Alright, everyone!” she announced, her voice cutting through the chatter. “I’ve got a surprise for the happy couple! I’ve been planning this for weeks, and I promise it’s going to be so much fun!”

I froze, confusion flooding my mind. A surprise? I hadn’t heard anything about this.

“What’s going on, Melissa?” I asked, approaching her.

“You’ll see!” she replied with a mischievous grin, as a man wheeled in a small machine with wires and sensors attached to it.

“What is that?” I asked, my heart racing with uncertainty.

“It’s a lie detector!” Melissa declared with a big smile. “I thought it would be a hilarious wedding game. You and Mark will answer some fun questions while hooked up to it. Trust me, everyone will love it!”

I glanced at Mark, who seemed just as confused as I felt. But after a moment, he shrugged and gave a nervous smile.

“Why not?” he said. “Let’s entertain them.”

“Perfect!” Melissa clapped her hands. “Let’s get started.”

The technician hooked us up to the machine, and Melissa began with lighthearted questions.

“Mark,” she asked with a sly grin, “Did you ever eat the last slice of pizza and blame it on Harlene?”

Mark laughed. “Yes,” he admitted, causing the guests to burst into laughter.

Then it was my turn.

“Harlene,” Melissa teased, “Have you ever secretly binge-watched a show without Mark?”

“Guilty,” I said, smiling as the lie detector confirmed I was telling the truth.

The questions continued, each one more playful than the last, and the guests laughed along with us. It seemed like the perfect way to keep the fun going. But then things took a strange turn.

Uncle Sam, who always had a jolly attitude, suddenly stood up, his face unusually serious.

“My turn,” he said, his voice heavy. “Mark, have you ever cheated on my niece?”

The room went silent. My stomach dropped.

Mark chuckled nervously. “That’s absurd, Uncle Sam. I don’t think that question even deserves an answer.”

But Uncle Sam wasn’t backing down. “If it’s so ridiculous, then prove it. Answer the question.”

I felt a knot in my stomach as Mark’s face turned defensive. Something didn’t feel right.

“Mark,” I whispered softly, “Just answer so we can move on.”

After a long pause, Mark finally answered, his voice tight. “No, I haven’t cheated on Harlene.”

The machine beeped. The screen flashed red: Lie Detected.

Gasps filled the room. I froze, unable to believe what I had just heard.

Uncle Sam wasn’t done. “Mark, did you cheat on her with someone here today?”

Mark didn’t say a word. His silence spoke volumes. That’s when I noticed Melissa fidgeting uncomfortably in her seat.

“Was it her?” I demanded, pointing at Melissa. “Did you cheat on me with my sister?”

Mark’s silence was all the answer I needed.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he spoke. “Yes.”

The word hit me like a punch to the gut. The world around me seemed to blur as my perfect day crumbled. My heart raced, my chest felt tight, and the tears welled up in my eyes.

Without another word, I turned and walked away from the man who had betrayed me—and from the sister I had once trusted. The wedding I had envisioned, the dream I had held so close, had shattered before my eyes.

I never thought this day would become a nightmare I’d never forget. But I would remember it—always—for all the wrong reasons.
